Boyd Hill has extensive litigation experience in the areas of real property, land use, environmental, water, eminent domain and business law. He has represented developers, entertainment companies, property owners, waste haulers, trucking companies, private lakes, investors, hospital groups, cities, water agencies and other special districts.

Mr. Hill has California state and federal court experience and has appeared in administrative hearings before California state agencies. He has taken or defended more than one hundred depositions and has tried more than a dozen cases, including a jury trial. Mr. Hill has written appellate briefs for the California Courts of Appeal and Supreme Court. He has achieved the following results for clients:

  • Settled a $2 million contract damages claim by a Grammy Award winning rock band for less than 25% in favor of a Fortune 100 entertainment company;
  • Prosecuted a complex water rights adjudication including a four month trial and appeals (City of Barstow v. Mojave Water Agency (2000) 23 Cal.4th 1224);
  • Obtained an injunction preventing a takeover of a private hospital’s emergency medical services operating area by a fire district; affirmed in Valley Medical Transp. v. Apple Valley Fire Prot. Dist. (1998) 17 Cal.4th 747)
  • Defeated a California Environmental Quality Act challenge to a large water storage project (Cal. Water Network v. Castaic Lake Water Agency 2006 Cal. App. Unpub. LEXIS 2454 (2006))
  • Obtained dismissal of a $6 million action for breach of a redevelopment agreement brought by a Chevrolet dealer against a redevelopment agency
  • Obtained a special referee judgment for water district overturning a 1995 California Regional Water Control Board Basin Plan;
  • Defeated a challenge to an $80 million certificate of participation financing on behalf of State Water Project contractor (affirmed in Plambeck v. Castaic Lake Water Agency 2007 Cal. App. Unpub. LEXIS 7241 (2007))
  • Obtained a summary judgment in a $2 million civil rights action by terminated contractors on behalf of a city
